Audio Technica Direct Drive Turntable

Fatlip Music’s take on the Audio-Technica AT-LP120 Turntable:

With over 2,500 reviews on Amazon.com, it goes without say that this is one popular turnable. In my day the go-to TT were the Technics 1200’s. But I have to say this is one sweet turntable and add to the fact that it has a USB input so that it connects to your computer to allow you to convert your LP’s to digital. It does come with Audacity software so you don’t need to purchase additional software to convert them.

This is a professional turntable that most DJ’s will be more than satisfied with using. It is quick starting and allows you to play records in forward and reverse. Has three speeds 33/45/78…does anyone still have 78’s floating around? But I digress. It has pitch controls and a hinged dust cover. If the component you plan on using to play this on does not have a dedicated Turntable Input it does have a pre-amplifier that allows you to connect directly to components.

Now, this is a great TT if all you are looking for is something to DJ with or don’t want to pay twice as much as for an Audiophile TT. If you are into classical or jazz or a just have a great ear and want to hear the pure sound of your vinyl records. You should remember that this has a preamp and you may notice that the sounds are not quite as clear as you may want. By the way if you are looking for a top of the line audiophile turntable the Marantz TT-15S1 is highly recommended.

But for the price, this is a great turntable. You can upgrade the stylus to improve the sound and fool around with the EQ settings to set it up to your preference. So pick up the Audio-Technica AT-LP120 and dust off those old vinyl records and relive the past or if you just want to experience what vinyl sounds like, you can go wrong with this TT.
